Having spent much time outdoors as a child cultivated a deep love of nature. Still, as an adult, I take long walks just to discover a tree I’ve not seen before, or enjoy the way the light casts its shadows on the earth, or the mesmerizing patterns of pigeons in the park.
Holding these images of nature in my mind, I allow them to become metaphors of self-expression. Most of my paintings contain representational objects of nature, which satisfy my desire for detail and clarity. At the same time, I enjoy allowing myself a time for playful expression resulting in abstract mark making.
I am interested in taking personal experiences and wrestling with them on canvas in order to create an image in which viewers can enter into and discover something for themselves. |
