Drawing from a variety of disciplines Ernst Thule creates work that spans a wide range of contemporary art. Honing in on timeless subject matter he is able to transform common themes into expressions which place accent in many settings. Ernst has explored many mediums of art including music and sculpture. He explains, “I find that building a song or playing a piece of music is very close to building a piece of art. Sound has shape and texture and I enjoy the dichotomy between music and art making”. His ear for musical composition adapts well to his eye for painterly composition as can be seen in his use of mixed mediums in his process. An extensive traveler, Ernst appreciates landscapes. Whether it be pastoral or coastal settings he collects images often by photograph but also draws from memory as well.
