Atlanta native Tommy Moss is an artist and former student of The Art Institute of Atlanta, SCAD/Atlanta, and Atlanta College of Art. His expressive and abstract work is a mix of influences and styles and shows a primary concern with the expressive qualities of color and the textural significance of the painting's suface. In the tradition of the New York School of abstract expressionists, his spontaneous works display a great emphasis on the process and act of painting.
"I strive to allow the process of painting to disintegrate my rigid tendencies and permit the work to evolve without premeditation, the end result brought forth through chance rather than intention. Nonetheless, as evident in most of my portfolio, geometry often takes over and my art becomes a sort of organized chaos. I also use texture to give the surface of my paintings some structure, a sense of architecture. I am in constant search of new vocabulary and techniques and continue to refine and define my own style through practice and experimentation." |
