Liette Marcil was born in Montreal. She has always said that she did not choose to be an artist but that “Art chose me”.  With training at The University "de l'Ecole des Beaux  Arts de Montreal"  and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,  Liette became fascinated with the art of ancient cultures throughout the world, mostly from Indigenous art, paying particular attention to Cave Painting(s).  She enjoys experimenting with colors and mixed media, looking for unexpected results, which she then works intuitively into her paintings, combining the use of markings, textured layers and subtle transparencies. “I keep myself open to surprises, although somewhat more consciously now, but in a way not much differently than I did as a child.  I let the world show me its multitude of richness. Anything can trigger this impulse to create: repetitive patterns, interesting textures, forms and odd shapes, juxtaposition of colors, etc…”
