Marlene London has always been aggressive in her pursuit of creative excellence. With a degree in English from Skidmore College, her work is multi-leveled, marrying layers of paint, wax and collage, with phrases from her writings. Marlene has studied art with famed artists Squeak Carnwath, Jane Hammond, Wolfe Kahn, Tim Berry, Katherine Porter, and Charles Garabedian and from these and other diverse artists, has developed her own approach to her well-received mixed-media work. Her workshops and residencies include The Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, The Vermont Studio Center, Burlington, Vermont, The Anderson Ranch, Aspen, Colorado, and R&F Paints (Encaustic training) in Kingston, N.Y. "I build worlds in which I am able to live... where I find meaning in bright red nails clicking on the table, where the smell of rain is to me the same as home, where womanhood is celebrated, and where an eggplant has a prominent place on this earth." |
