I finally found my artistic center when I let go of my life-long concerns with realism and discovered I could say more through abstract painting. After yet another struggle of searching for subject matter that I could infuse with electric color, the underlying passion behind my work, I was struck by a realization - color should be the subject matter. All I ever really wanted to do was lay down color - everything else was just an excuse to get there.

Somehow through my adult life, I have held onto my childlike excitement about saturated color– ignoring the popular ideas that dictate that bright, “loud” color is unsophisticated, or too garish. Words like “eye sore” and “tacky” are commonly used when color is too prominent in its environment.
